Working In clay: Small sculptural study of a woman. I enjoyed exploring her form : full breasts , a large behind, tiny waist, full lips, waiting mouth.

Maybe the colour makes the "vehicle " less important?

Almost human qualities: eyes; mouths on older models no longer seen on modern cars; a round headlight... a substitute for the human eye? Portraits of cars.

Well, I ordered from this amazing site I found- ToolsForPainters.com- The person I corresponded with was prompt, helpful and communicated beautifully. I am very anxious to receive this package. I made my own Mahl Stick but is heavy and clumsy at best. His tools look beautiful and the prices, even with the exchange rate were very competitive. Of course I am still concerned if I get dinged at customs and excise! YUCK! I will send photos and keep everyone posted as this progresses.

So far, it is the best experience I have had with cross border shopping! Otherwise, I spent the day painting my Blue balloon painting and laying in more on my cowboys.

And I am sort of watching the Olympic Hockey game- Maybe National Spirit even filters through to non-sport minded, artsy Canadians. We are leading 2-1! Yahoo!

When I am here I miss my oils. When I am at the oils I think of this space. I love them both and they both whisper.

Time has no meaning or value when I sit or stand at my easels. The clock moves, the paint moves but it all blends into a blurr of work. Even when I finish for the day and the sky darkens and tell me to to stop, I drive home and think about what I must do, fix, change and control the next day. It is a beautiful obsession. I wish I could say that my knee aches or my back. They do. But, it is not problematic. I am so lucky. Every day I cling to that feeling. I love my time in the main studio. Music rings out, favourite tunes from times long ago experienced. And problems must be solved. Additions of payne's grey or violet or crimson. It is the most wonderful experience... It truly is joyous. I have actually been thinking about moving the oil studio to the main space. There is room. Oodles of glorious space. Terrific high ceilings. My easels are able to fully extend. Big windows, wide space. I am so bloody lucky. I know it. I feel it. I enjoy it. I crave my hands in paint. I hate going to bed at night. I can't sleep for wanting to get back. Sometimes, when my partner is away I just sit in my space and feel like ... It is overwhelming to think how I am so lucky.... How did I get so blessed with this space. How did I get so lucky to have such a supportive partner?

I am filled with anticipation- should I unveil my new series as a whole or in wonderful pieces- painting by painting. Each one builds upon the last. Cowboys- I never would have thought they could prove so amazing an experience. Guns and bits and textures and metals and odd things and ropes. Horses. WOW! It is a wonderful life!

Fugi Reversal Film - I am experimenting with film after many years away... running into difficulties when scanning images for archival purposes.. zoom in close for full film grain... I am undecided if it is worth the trouble and hassles when compared with digital images. Would welcome comment from other photographers- Do any of you use film?

What I like about these images is they are landscapes but taken with a portrait orientation. I think they convey the vastness of the prairies but do so by emphasizing the continuity of view from near to far; that the rocks and grasses close to the viewer are as integral to the view as the clouds and hills in the background.

The last gasps of fall. John, with his ever present camera, captured these images in London at the Western Fair.

The Early September sky was a perfect backdrop allowing him to capture crips images. It made for a fabulous " Blue" frame.

Absurdity and Art

I am always looking at people and situations. I love juxtaposition, the almost absurdist qualities in life. Here we were out to a Scottish Festival and came upon this quiet "Behind the Scene" view. I grabbed the image using a telephoto lens. I have been digesting it in the hopes of turning it into a painting.

I enjoy using a camera but as a means to an end. It is interesting to work with a photographer where the photograph is not a step in the process but the goal.

This differing focus makes for frequent discussions about process, perspective, point of view, lighting and of course subject. Lighting is not the bain of my existence as I am able to manipulate this through paint and texture.

Main Photography Studio... Lighting is Key

Here are two main views of the Main Gallery of the Photography Studio. The large room boasts an extended two storey ceiling with a balcony and catwalk. Large windows allow the capture of natural lighting abd the use of grey diffused light. The windows are both a benefit and a nuisance. Lighting is the ever-present problem for the photographer. Mood can sometimes be supported by blurring clarity. Lighting is the key.

What A difference a TILT Makes...

The Differerence between the positioning of a head can change the entire impact and mood of a photograph. Consider the model in both images. The same lighting, the same postion and body form. The only obvious difference is the tilt of the head. Which do YOU prefer and why?

Which one is more successful? More impactful? Moodier?
